Prime Minister visits locally and emphasises East West Link

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull joined local federal MPs, Alan Tudge and Jason Wood, in Ringwood today to discuss the Turnbull Government’s commitment to the East West Link.

Mr Tudge and Mr Wood, along with Michael Sukkar MP and Tony Smith MP, have been leading the campaign for the East West Link for several years.

The road would provide huge benefits for Knox residents who travel into the city along the Eastern Freeway or to the Airport.  It would also create 7,000 jobs.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the Government remains absolutely committed to getting the road built and has set aside $3 billion to contribute to its construction whenever a state government is willing to get the job done.

“We have $3 billion of federal funding on the table to support the construction of this long overdue piece of infrastructure,” said the Prime Minister.

“It is so vital to relieve the congestion in this, the fastest growing city in Australia.”

“Three billion dollars is available as soon as there is a Victorian Government that is ready to build the East West Link.”

“Labor stands in the way. The Liberal Party is ready to commit and build the East West Link.”

Mr Tudge emphasised the importance of building the East West Link.

“We maintain our absolute commitment to get the East West Link built and have kept $3 billion on the table to see it done,” said Mr Tudge.

“Local residents are still white-hot with rage over Daniel Andrews’ decision to waste $1.1 billion NOT to build the road.  It is desperately needed and we are going to keep up the pressure.”
