Puffing Billy to get a makeover
23-May-2016
The Federal Member for Aston, Hon Alan Tudge MP, said that Knox residents will significantly benefit from an upgrade to Puffing Billy and the widening of the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road.
The Prime Minister today committed $20 million to these and other tourist infrastructure in the Dandenongs under a re-elected Turnbull Government.
The commitments include:
- Upgrades to the iconic Puffing Billy, including construction of all-weather facilities.
- The widening of the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road.
- Extension of the Emerald-Cockatoo multi-use trail to Gembrook.
- An upgrade to the Ridge Walk, connecting Upwey/Tecoma to Montrose via Ferny Creek, Sassafras, Olinda, Mount Dandenong, and Kalorama.
Mr Tudge said that the Federal Member for La Trobe, Jason Wood MP, had fought hard for these upgrades and they will benefit people right across Melbourne, including in Knox.
“These are iconic attractions right on our doorstep,” Mr Tudge said.
“The upgrades will be a major boost for local tourism and make visiting the area more enjoyable.”
“Almost every local family would have been to Puffing Billy, and now there is a reason to visit again!” said Mr Tudge.
