Delivering a safer and more secure Boronia

04-June-2018

Hon Alan Tudge MP, the Federal Member for Aston, has today announced $423,000 for a project to improve and create a safer Boronia.

This is a project that Mr Tudge has backed and fought for and comes on top of other local community safety projects he has delivered.

The new funding has been committed under Round 2 of the Coalition’s $40 million Safer Communities Fund.

The funding will purchase and install almost 70 lights and bollards in the areas surrounding Boronia Station on the western side.

In particular, the area surrounding Boronia railway station and bus depot, including Orchid and Erica Avenue where the streets are known to be dark and hidden at night.

The upgrade will also include foliage maintenance to open up the area and make it safer for pedestrians.

The Knox Council will implement the project as part of its broader Boronia Renewal Project.

The new lights and bollards that will be installed at the Boronia transport hub will boost security and improve pedestrian and local amenity.  The lights will become another important tool in the effort to reduce crime.

Mr Tudge said security and community safety was his top priority.

“In my local surveys and the other feedback I get, community safety is the top concern.”

“This project will make another area of Boronia safer at night and make a real difference for commuters and pedestrians around Boronia Station.”

“There is always more to be done.  I will continue to work with the police, local traders, residents and the Knox Council on other practical local initiatives that will be implemented to make our community safer. “ said Mr Tudge.

This project will compliment other safety and security initiatives for Boronia which include the CCTV System at Boronia Junction Shopping Centre and Boronia railway station and Dorset Square.
