Young Leader receives first 2016 Aston Shield Award

The Federal Member for Aston, Alan Tudge MP, has presented the first 2016 Aston Shield award to a local student.

Year 12 Waverley Christian College student, Danielle Piccin, was awarded the prestigious Aston Shield Award at a ceremony as part of the school’s assembly this morning.

The award is named in honour of Tilly Aston, an inspiring woman who worked tirelessly for the rights of blind people.  The Federal Electorate of Aston, which covers most of Knox, is also named after Tilly Aston.

Over the coming months, Mr Tudge will be presenting Aston Shield awards to students across Knox at end of year assemblies and presentation evenings.  The Aston Shield is given to outstanding students who are role models for the rest of their school.

Danielle was selected for her outstanding service to the school community, participation in all, sporting, dramatic and musical events as well as her participation in her church’s youth welcoming committee.

Mr Tudge said it was a pleasure to award the Shield to honour an outstanding local student.

“Congratulations to Danielle on what is a very deserving recognition of achievement, excellent attitude and a positive contribution to the school community over a number of years,” Mr Tudge said.

“The Aston Shield recognises and encourages the important qualities of being a good citizen and role model to other students.”

“I look forward to continuing to present Aston Shields across schools in Knox and awarding some very deserving students.”
