Call for nominations for the 2016 Aston Community Awards

Call for nominations for the 2016 Aston Community Awards

The Federal Member for Aston, the Hon Alan Tudge MP, is encouraging Knox residents to nominate an individual or community group they believe deserves recognition for their service to the community.

The Aston Community Awards celebrate local volunteers and community groups who give their time, skill and energy to helping others and making the Knox community a better place to live.

The awards are named after Tilly Aston - a remarkable woman ahead of her time.  Born in 1873, she was totally blind by the age of 7.  She helped bring about great changes to provide opportunities for visually impaired young people, including establishing what is known today Vision Australia.

Mr Tudge said that he is pleased to be able to honour the hard work of local Knox volunteers, which can all too easily go unnoticed.

“We have some outstanding volunteers in our community and the Aston Community Awards are a chance to recognise them,” Mr Tudge said.

“It is important that we properly thank these individuals for all of their work.

“Nominations are now open and I encourage Knox residents to nominate their unsung hero or community group for the recognition they deserve.”

The Aston Community Awards will recognise local volunteers in four categories:

  •       Youth Volunteer Achievement Award;
  •       Individual Volunteer Achievement Award;
  •       Community Group Achievement Award; and
  •       Senior Volunteer Achievement Award.

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 7 October 2016 at the Knox Italian Club in Rowville.

Nominating is a simple, two minute process. Nominations close on 16 September 2016.

Nomination forms can be completed on Mr Tudge’s website at or by contacting his office on 9887 3890.
