Community Ice Forum - Progress Update and Discussion 21st March in Wantirna South

The Federal Member for Aston, Hon Alan Tudge MP, will be holding a community Ice Forum for Knox residents in Wantirna South.

The forum will provide a progress update on the Federal Government’s new National Ice Plan and to gather feedback from residents about what needs to be done locally.

The forum will include senior police and local practitioners and policy experts, who deal with the effects of Ice use in Knox each day, including:

·         - Acting Inspector Tracy Leitch, Acting Knox Local Area Commander, Victoria Police;

·         - Dave Burt, CEO and founder of Sport and Life Training (SALT); and

·         - John Ryan, CEO of the Penington Institute.

The major focus of the forum will be the $300 million National Ice Plan which includes additional rehab facilities, a focus on prevention and cracking down on suppliers.

“The National Plan was informed by the Aston Ice Report which was based on the feedback of hundreds of Knox locals who shared their stories through calls, letters, emails, social media and contributions made at the previous Ice forum,” Mr Tudge said.

“It is clear that we have to change cultural attitudes towards Ice to make it socially unacceptable to ever take drugs and we need to help addicts get off it.”

“This is a good opportunity for Knox locals to get a progress update about the National Ice Plan and provide further ideas about how we can tackle Ice in our community.”

Mr Tudge has been a strong advocate for increasing local rehab and currently has a petition with over 230 responses calling for more places to help those in our local community battling Ice to get off drugs for good.

The forum will be held on Monday 21st March, 7:00pm-8:30pm at the Knox Gardens Community Hall in Wantirna South.

To register your attendance, RSVP to Mr Tudge’s office on 9887 3890 or by email to alan.tudge.mp@aph.gov.au
