Bill Shorten wants more traffic for Knox

Bill Shorten has publicly stated his support for more congestion for families, lost productivity for small business and fewer jobs for workers.

Asked yesterday if he supports the East West Link, Bill Shorten said “no”.

In 2008, Bill Shorten made two submissions in support of East West Link, stating:

“…the new East-West Link is crucial to jobs and economic growth.”

“A new east-west link is a priority infrastructure investment and major project.”

Then last year, Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen said:

“Bill Shorten and I are of one mind, Labor honours contracts. Labor in Government honours contracts entered into by previous governments. Even if we don’t like them for issues of sovereign risk, Labor honours contracts in office signed by previous governments.”

But now it seems Bill Shorten has forgotten the major benefits of building East West Link and is happy to see $1.2 billion thrown on the bonfire.

The Federal Member for Aston, the Hon Alan Tudge MP, along with other colleagues, recently launched the ‘Build the Link’ campaign with over a hundred supporters and local businesses.

Over 14,000 concerned residents have so far signed the petition.

Mr Tudge has been fighting for East West Link for several years on behalf of all Knox residents.  It is a much needed infrastructure project for Melbourne that will reduce travel times, ease congestion on our major roads, and create 7,000 jobs for Victoria.

It was an election commitment of the Federal Coalition to fund $1.5 billion to get East West Link built.

“Bill Shorten has gone from Build-it-Bill to Block-it-Bill,” said Mr Tudge.

“Bill Shorten has joined Daniel Andrews in neglecting the outer east.”

“This was a contracted, funded project creating jobs and easing congestion. Just build it,” said Mr Tudge.
