Apply for Knox environmental projects funding

The Federal Member for Aston, the Hon Alan Tudge MP, is inviting the Knox Council, community groups and individuals to apply for funding for environmental projects throughout Knox.

The Green Army initiative provides funds for hands-on, practical, grassroots action to support local environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia.

The Green Army gives Australians aged 17-24 years the opportunity for training and experience in environmental and conservation fields and to explore careers in conservation management while delivering real benefits to the Australian environment.

Participants will be eligible to receive a green army allowance and will have the opportunity to undertake further training to build their skills.

With Round 3 of the programme now open to applications, Mr Tudge has written to Knox Council encouraging Council to apply for funding for Knox environmental projects.

“The Green Army can make a real difference to the Knox environment through projects such as restoring and protecting habitats, weeding, planting, cleaning up creeks and rivers and restoring cultural heritage places,” said Mr Tudge.

“In addition to that the participants will be paid an allowance and gain valuable skills in conservation management, teamwork and discipline in waking up each morning and committing to work.”

“I encourage all Knox locals and community groups who have a passion for the environment to get involved and submit a project proposal.”

Project guidelines, information and applications are available at Applications for projects under Round 3 close on 17 March 2015.
